Exquisite Picture-Book Studies for Homeschool Families
Welcome, thank you for being here! I'm Cait, the creator of Library Gems Collection. I am a former-teacher-turned-homeschool-mom to four, and I love creating for and with my kids!
Before we started homeschooling four years ago, and before having kids, I taught in a public school classroom in two states, ranging from middle school Spanish, to Kindergarten Spanish Immersion. Both classrooms were special, but my favorite was definitely kindergarten. It combined so many of my favorite things: teaching (with a heavy emphasis on literature), Spanish, and the early elementary age group that is transfixed with wonder.
Now that I am homeschooling my own kids, it has been both challenging and invigorating to apply my teaching background & skill set to the children most precious in my life: my own!
My love of reading, writing and art has morphed in so many exciting ways throughout my life, and has continued to blossom since my eldest was born ten years ago. Many of my fondest memories of childhood include listening to my parents read aloud to me, hearing "book talks" from our elementary school librarian, and putting my name on a slip of paper at Barnes & Noble, to reserve my fresh hardcover of Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban.
Writing has taken many forms in motherhood, including: personalized poems & songs for my kids, an almost-finished memoir, and now, literary curriculum for children. Writing this book study & other homeschool curriculum is a culmination of love, gratitude, appreciation for high-quality children's literature, and a desire to create something that an entire family of diverse learners can enjoy.
Cultivating my artistic side took a back seat during my earlier years of parenting, as many habits do. Juggling feeding schedules, diapers, fresh milestones and all of the beautiful nuances that parenting has to offer was my main priority for many years. Now that have moved out of the 'baby stage,' I have been able to bring back some of my artistic interests, including drawing and painting.
For as much as I love to create art, my strongest area is writing. After writing the Let's Go Home Book study, I wanted to find a professional artist for the design & artwork. I partnered with my friend Amy, who is a graphic designer & illustrator. She is responsible for the design & original artwork you see throughout this book study.
Amy & I have a set of four more book studies that will be released in the Heartfelt Home collection, this year! We look forward to showing you. I hope the book studies will bless your families with incredible discussion, creativity, and bonding. They are repeatable book studies, meaning you can use them over and over again, each year in your homeschool. Books are an amazing way to form tradition. I hope you can partake!
With love,
Cait
