I’m Bronwen Shepherd and I own Threadwork and Textile Holidays France. My husband John Shepherd helps me run my business. As owner, I am the Data Controller, so I’m responsible for managing customer (and potential customer) information.

Privacy Policy:
We are committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. This Privacy Policy explains:
(1) What data I collect and how I use it
(2) How I collect it and
(3) How I protect this data.
Data is collected and stored in compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2018.
(1) What data/information I collect and why/how we use it:
Under GDPR, the legal basis for collecting and storing your details is “Contract” – I need these details to fulfil my obligations to you and for keeping lawful business records. I have looked at what information I collect, how I store and use it, and the methods I use are the best way of meeting my obligations.
If you contact me, I will collect your name and email address. Why? So that I can reply to your enquiry. I will only use your details to reply to you; I will not pass the information on to anyone else, nor will I use it for future marketing unless you sign up for my mailing list.
If you are enquiring about a custom-made product, I will retain your name/contact details. Why? So that I can answer your enquiry. I will not pass this information onto anyone else – it is purely to help me design your product.
If you order a custom-made product I will need to ask for further information so that I can process your order. I have to keep some information – name, value of order - for tax purposes for 6 years. After 6 years these records will be deleted. Why? I need to collect the information legally required for keeping good business records. Also, I may need to be able to contact you to discuss the order.
If you enquire but then don’t place an order, I’ll remove your personal details from my records within 6 weeks of your last contact. I might keep a record of WHERE the enquiry originated/ how I was contacted, but will not retain your name or any other contact details.
Why 6 weeks? Some customers research custom-made items well in advance and can contact me a few weeks after their initial enquiry. What if you don’t want me to save your details for 6 weeks? If, having contacted me, you decide you don’t want to place an order and would rather I deleted your contact data before then, please just send an email saying so and I will do that within 7 days.
Why retain where the enquiry came from? I do this in order to analyse the effectiveness of various marketing strategies.

Mailing List – When you contact me, I will ask if you’re interested in being put on my Mailing List and will only add you if you give me permission to do so. You can unsubscribe from my mailing list at any time.
Why be added to a mailing list? You might want to know about future products or projects I’m working on– if you’re added to my Mailing List you’ll learn about these. You will ONLY be added if you specifically request it.

Reviews – If you are kind enough to write a review I will only publish your name with your permission, otherwise it will be anonymous.

Photographs – I will take photographs of all products I make. I might use these photographs for marketing and advertising – for example, on my Facebook page or on my website. However, if you’ve ordered a personalized item I will always ask your permission before using photographs of it, to protect your privacy.
Why photos? I take photographs for many reasons: as a record to remind me of a particular process, as a teaching aid to show others, for marketing/promotion and as a celebration of what has been made.

(2) How I collect this data
Personal data is collected from emails and other correspondence. For example, if we talk on the telephone about the sort of product you want I will make notes that will be word processed and stored on my laptop, to help me plan your item.

(3) How I protect this data

Your information is stored as emails, word documents and sometimes on an Excel spreadsheet. My husband John and I are the only people who have access to the information I keep. We respect your privacy and will not share any of your information with anyone else unless we are required to do so by law or to protect our own interests (e.g. to submit an insurance claim).

Our computers are protected by passwords and are not used by anyone else – just John and myself.
Your Rights
1) You have the right to:
• Change any information I hold (for example, change your email address/contact details)
• Request to be removed from my mailing list
• Ask what information I currently have for you
