Why do I Work with Glass?
Ich war schon immer vom Feuer verzaubert und beobachtete, wie sich die Flammen bewegten und Dinge verzehrten. Ich fand es erstaunlich, wie es etwas in nichts anderes als Asche verwandeln konnte.
Vor etwa 14 Jahren lernte ich durch reinen Zufall, dass Menschen Glas in einer Flamme mit einer Taschenlampe manipulieren und schöne Kunst machen konnten. Ich besorgte mir die Grundausrüstung und fing an, um schmelzendes Glas herumzuspielen. Ich verschlang jedes Buch, jeden Forenbeitrag und jedes Video, das ich über das, was ich gelernt hatte, Lampenarbeit genannt wurde. Diese herrliche Kunstform eroberte mein Herz. Ich begann mit weichem Glas, machte dann ein Jahr Pause und begann wieder mit Borosilikatglas.
Ich habe mich verliebt, wie sich das Glas bewegt und fließt. Ich habe gelernt, dass es mir manchmal sagt, was es sein will, anstatt umgekehrt. Ich habe gelernt, mich umzusehen und mich von der Natur und den kleinen Dingen, die ich um mich herum sehe, inspirieren zu lassen. Ich liebe, was ich tue. Ich liebe es, kreieren zu können und ich habe eine sehr schwere Zeit mit der Produktionsarbeit und deshalb ist jeder Artikel, den ich mache, einzigartig.
Auf meiner Reise entschied ich, dass es großartig wäre, sich mit anderen zu verbinden, die auch die gleiche Besessenheit hatten wie ich. Dies führte mich dazu, eine Website namens Lampwork Etc.(www.lampworketc.com) für Glaskünstler zu starten. Es ist eine Gemeinschaft, in der Künstler teilen, lernen, sich inspirieren lassen und sich mit anderen verbinden können, die auch Glas lieben.
I have always been enchanted by fire, watching the flames move and consume things. I thought it was amazing how it could transform something into nothing except ash.
Around 14 years ago, through sheer chance, I learned that people could manipulated glass in a flame with a torch and make beautiful art. I got the basic equipment and started playing around melting glass. I devoured every book, forum post, and video I could find on what I learned was called lampwork. This glorious art form captured my heart. I started with soft glass, then took a year break and started back up with borosilicate glass.
I fell in love with how the glass moves and flows. I learned that it sometimes tells me what it wants to be, instead of the other way around. I learned to look around me and be inspired by nature and the small things I see around me. I love what I do. I love being able to create and I have a very hard time with production work and therefore every item I make is unique.
In my journey, I decided it would be great to connect to others who also had the same obsession as me. This led me to start a website called Lampwork Etc.(www.lampworketc.com) for Glass Artists. It is a community where artists can share, learn, get inspiration, and connect with others who also love glass.
