Functional pottery, pure shapes

Anyone who comes to grips with a pottery wheel will be touched by the magic of throwing. After 12 years I still get a huge amount of pleasure from it.
Add to that the feeling of luxury and privilege of using your own crockery, with every piece its own character.
Then there is the bonus of the physical act of throwing that gives you the pleasant feeling of being centered in yourself.
In my pots I like to see simple, pure shapes adorned with a free application of glazes.
Functionality is important to me: every new object has to be tested by using it. A piece that asks to be used is good, if it ends up at the back of the bottom shelf, change it.
That's why I only work in stoneware and porcelain, so that every item is dishwasher-, oven- and microwave-safe.
Needless to say in a webshop a nice pot is just as important as a good picture of that pot. That's why I take great care in photographing my ceramics. Most pictures are taken with the Nikon D600 and a Nikkor 24-85mm 1:3.5-4.5. For light I normally use natural light from a north-east facing window. This also means that I can only use days with bright skies for my photo sessions. Most pictures are only mildly edited as the aim should be: What you see is what you get.
The use of a Full Frame camera for webpictures is debatable: a lot of information gets lost in the process. However when you use the zoom function to take a closer look at my work I think you will find that at close up the pieces gain a bigger presence, thereby making your choice easier.

    Owner, Maker

About 13 years ago I bought myself some clay to have a go at an old wheel that was sitting in the shed. Ever since then throwing is my main occupation, at first for my own use and bit by bit as a full time profession.

Welcome to my Etsy pottery shop!

For over 10 years I have been throwing clay on the pottery wheel. I can honestly say I have found my true passion. Handmade ceramics can do a special thing: they can create a unique connection between maker and user, something that is impossible with massproduced factory ware. The feeling of personal privilege I have myself when using handmade pottery everyday, is something I would like to share with others.
Every object I make starts as a simple ball of clay on the wheel. I personally develop shape and finish. The clay and glazes I use have been developed during years of study, testing and experiment. Most of the glazes I mix myself in order to have control over quality and behaviour in the oven.
As I hardly ever use molds every item will show subtle variations in size, shape and finish. Especially with sets this is visible. However this is not a shortcoming but a natural quality inherent in handmade ceramics.
All my pottery is foodsafe as there is no lead in the glaze. Also, everything is dishwasher- and microwave safe. It is possible to use it in the oven, in that case care has to be taken that changes in temperature are gradual. Please do not put an ovendish straight from the freezer into the oven.
My pottery is UNSAFE on open flame or grill.
