5 out of 5 starsI order this beautiful Zulu letter. It's exactly what the description states. Took a bit longer than expected but it's the world parcel fault not the seller. The original package never made it. Assuming it got lost or something. I inform the seller and she was concern that the package didn't Ed. Seller was on top of it and show concern about it. Very good seller.

Tartan range by the French fashion house Celine.
A love story that resulted in a funky product range!
In the Netherlands I used to work for the Dutch National Theatre as an actress... But I decided to follow my Love to Durban, South Africa!
Here I straight away was bowled over by the amazing rich Zulu craft traditions.
Out of interest, I learned how to do a lot of it myself and in the process decided to try and contemporise particular classical pieces by introducing new colours or adjusting them a bit. They unexpectedly became a little hit and I got approached by a local NGO: Africa!Ignite and asked whether I would be interested in becoming their product designer.
And that is what I did for two years... I developed several successful products during this time. The most popular one of them, the Langazela cushion covers in collaboration with the amazing master crafter Mma Khumalo. The front panel of the cushions are made out of recycled cornsacks that are hand-embroidered with wool. It was wonderful to see that the sacks create the perfect grid for embroidery. Lidewij Edelkoort selected them for the exhibition Memphis Meets Africa that she curated for the Design Indaba in Cape Town in 2013.
In order to focus exclusively on developing products that I really love and giving them all the attention and time I believe they needed - I decided to go on my own and as of June 2013, NOUSH was born.
I still use the same technique of embroidering but decided to explore other materials as well. My new big love and inspiration is "the Tartan bag" also known as "the Ghana must go bag".
I did not know at all there is a big trend at the moment around this particular pattern - after several prominent fashion designers made the print part of their collection. I just always loved it :)
I use it in all sorts of different ways... As lampshades, trims on cushion covers, vases, wall ornaments key rings or as a bag with a make-over!
I make a lot of the products myself, but for the very intense embroidery I still collaborate with Mma Khumalo and her daughter Mpume - they are based in deep rural KwaZulu-Natal...
It would be great if you would also like to check out our website: www.noush.co.za (it will keep growing ... :)
Warm regards,
Noush.

NOUSH would not have been what it is right now without Bertinah Khumalo, also known as MmaKhumalo. She is an extremly talanted crafts women who I toltally adore in the first place because of her amzing eye, but also because of her honesty and power.

Mpume

As a small girl MmaKhumalo learned how to do all sorts of different craft, just by watching her Mother do it. She now works closely togther with her own daugther Mpume, who clearly has got her mothers talent for craft!
