Biography Phillip Cantrell
From a label attached to a Midwest woodland scene dating to the 1960s or 70s:
Born, Port Austin, Michigan, 1922... one of our finest and most requested Artists.. He lived in Paris from the age of 19 to 23, during which time he cultivated his unique talent for Landscape paintings. A sense of mystery and realism fills his paintings, which are, mainly, representative of the old school. He returned to Port Austin in 1950 where he mainly paints the local scenery.
Information provided by Linda Talley who has found that this artist's work is often assigned to John William Cantrell who lived in California and painted Old Mission buildings and the landscape around Monterey.
