I began selling doll clothing in my shop called, Sweet Scarlett Studio, in 2008. Things were slow and I was disappointed in the progress I wasn't making. In fact, I was actually depressed. After a while I realized that my expectations were based on my love of re-purposing and using quality material from the past to make the doll clothing but that wasn't what the market wanted. Customers wanted good value, modern doll clothes and that just wasn't me. So I looked instead to do what I love - buy and sell vintage and antique items, and EnglishPreserves was born!

For a while I kept SweetScarlett open but eventually, I merged the two shops.
I began selling what I owned in my own home and hoping people would love it, too.
I diversified to include collectibles and trends that I saw that people were desiring to buy/collect.
My own favourites of antique and vintage linens, porcelain china, and all things embroidered and tea, headed the list. But I also saw a shared love of Royal collectibles, and added them when I could find them for sale.
But I was still wanting a creative outlet. Something I could design and make that would allow my artistic side to shine through.
I was able to do this with designing and creating Lucky Penny Books and also with Sixpence Wedding Cards.

In 2018 I reluctantly stopped operations in the shop while my husband and I transitioned from our home in the U.K. to our new home in the U.S.. It's been a long and sometimes difficult struggle but we are happy to announce the reopening of the shop in the summer of 2020. Yay!
