Announcement   In my little shop I'll be offering a limited amount of finished products as well as PDF sewing patterns for you to create your own wonderful, whimsical handmade creations. I'm starting with bibs, onesies, and stitchery - then I'll work my way up to the quilts and children's clothing line.

The ideas come easily to me, and one of my favorite things to do is take the character or idea from my head and turn it into a drawing. Then I feel compelled to turn this into a quilt. I can't tell you why I feel everything would look cute on a quilt. Hmmmm. Perhaps a little eccentric? Let's say quirky.

Anyhow, I sometimes use elements from the quilt and put them on a bib or onesie. So that's my design process.

( I wish you could see my studio - I have SO many quilts and an entire clothing line for babies and little girls all finished. )

The actual turning these designs into a PDF pattern is where things slow WAY down. I've taken at least a year, probably more, learning to translate my art to a computer so I can digitize and format these patterns. I'm surprised I haven't pulled all my hair out from frustration - but little by little I've learned skills to help me put out a pattern I can be proud of.

I'm an artist and an author, wife, mom, and grandma, an introvert, and I think I have the soul of someone who was born in 1940.

I love, love, love vintage, but my designs usually have a fresh or modern spin on vintage. I guess I'll say my style is fresh vintage. Or vintage fresh. Yes, I like that.

My designs all begin with the children's stories I have in my head, which I will get down onto paper someday. I will illustrate my stories myself, and I love to draw and paint these images in watercolor.

Maybe someday I'll offer prints from my designs, but for now they are so near and dear to me that I'm not ready to share them. My designs that you see on the quilts, onesies, and bibs are characters taken from these stories and art.

It feels kind of scary sharing my happy little world with others. I'm hoping that maybe someone else out there might get even a tiny bit of happiness from joining me in this happy little place. This is why I'm creating patterns and finished products to share.

A handmade gift is a gift of love.

I believe in handmade. I'm very passionate about creating with my own two hands and giving of myself with a handmade, well, pretty much anything!

I treasure handmade gifts and collectibles from generations before me, and I want to promote the appreciation and education of handmade items.

Most likely I'm not the only one out there that feels that way, as a matter of fact I know it to be true because I've met so many of you. I'm in the process of creating an online community where we can meet, share, learn, inspire, and appreciate handmade.

Please visit me at www.fanniejane.com and introduce yourself to me. My site is just being completed, but I'm getting there! If you want to be notified of anything new and exciting join my mailing list and I'll keep you up to date!
