5 out of 5 starsAfter a day of wearing it, my finger became blue/black where the ring was.
Claire responded on Mar 14, 2024
Hey Ariel! This is harmless and likely due to the pH of your skin (fun fact- this happens to me too when I eat a lot of garlic, or take a specific medication while wearing any sterling silver as both garlic and certain medications change the pH of my skin. 🤯) Let me know if you need any help with this, we can easily apply a clear barrier to your ring if needed :) I'm very glad to hear you're still enjoying the ring else wise ❤️

Frequently asked questions
What is your engraving like?
Our engraving is deeper than most shops and is entirely done by hand using a mix of stamps, hand gravers, & cutting bits. Due to our commitment to being a truly handmade company, we do not use lasers to complete any of our engravings. We also will not use engraving machines that merely scratch the surface. Our engraving is deep and is designed to last for years.
My jewelry has an lacquer patina (LP) finish on it, will the patina change with time?
Yes- there are no permanent coatings, patina, or platings available to use on silver alloys. ALL patinas, coatings, or platings are semi-permanent.
Our lacquer patina is proprietary, it is not available to other jewelers. It was developed to be a longer-lasting solution to traditional LOS or silver darkening solutions.
Through testing, the longevity of our lacquer patina performs similarly to black rhodium or ruthenium platings, without the high cost & harsh chemicals involved in plating.
With wear it will gradually wear away over time revealing the silver beneath, any of our patinas or coatings can always be reapplied to your jewelry whenever you need them. Just send us a message and we can help you with what you need.
Repair Warranty
We stand by the quality of our work, if for some reason there is ever a fault with our craftsmanship we will replace or repair your jewelry free of charge.
•Pieces that are subject to: an accident, normal wear-and-tear, abuse, modification, attempted repair by someone other than Skolland Jewelry, negligence, or misuse, are not covered. In these cases, if feasible we will repair the piece for a reasonable fee.
•Some of our chains are repairable, and some are not. We will either repair or replace damaged or broken chains for 90 days after purchase.
As there is not enough room to list our full repair warranty on Etsy, please see our full repair warranty on our website: https://skollandjewelry.com/pages/repair-warranty
Can I get this made in Gold?
Yes! I have experience working with a wide range of gold & silver alloys-I can make any listing in my Etsy shop from your choice of gold. ( 10k-22k)
Please send me a message to make arrangements for purchasing if you'd like to have something made in your desired karat or alloy.
Care instructions
All jewelry purchased from my shop arrives with care instructions & information regarding the patina used on your jewelry. Our patina cards and care instructions provide you with information on how to care for your jewelry, our contact info to get in touch in case you have any questions and patina longevity expectations. We have an extensive FAQ & blog section on our website dedicated to jewelry care. Please see our website https://skollandjewelry.com/pages/faqs for our full list of care guidance and tips
Are your stones natural or treated?
All of my stones are 100% natural unless otherwise noted. It will be stated in the description of an item if a stone is heat treated, dyed, stabilized, or otherwise altered from its natural state. I prefer to use completely natural stones in my jewelry, so treated stones are rare in my shop. If you have any further questions about a particular stone, please feel free to message me.
Custom Orders
Due to my current workload, I only take custom orders January-October 15th of each calendar year. Currently, the only months open are: June, August
Starting in 2023 all custom orders start at $350- the final price is determined by the complexity, weight, material, and overall time needed to complete the design. With custom orders, I get to work with you 1 on 1 to make sure your dream piece is everything you'd hope it to be.
Custom order requests can be submitted year-round, I will review your request and respond within 1-2 business days if it is a project I can work on you with. If it is something that is out of my scope, I will recommend other businesses that might be able to take on your project.
My jewelry has LOS patina on it, will the patina on my jewelry change over time?
Yes-there are no permanent patinas. Your finish will change with time.
I use 2 different types of patina in my work- Liver of sulfur (aka LOS, it's a traditional option commonly used among jewelers) and a proprietary lacquer-like patina that I developed.
LOS patina will have the patina sealed with renaissance wax to help preserve the finish, depending on how you handle your jewelry this patina will likely change over time making it unique to the wearer. It is paramount that you regard the care instructions that arrive with your jewelry unless you want the darkened finish to wear away quickly. If you are someone who is hard on your jewelry, but still wants an aged finish please message me for alternative finish recommendations.
HELP! I ordered the wrong ring size, can you resize the ring for me?
All bands listed in my shop can either be resized by me, or by a jeweler close to you who is willing to work on them.
My rates for resizing are $35 + shipping, and resizing can take about a week from the time the ring arrives back to me. Please contact me prior to sending a ring back for resizing.
The only band in my shop that I do not recommend resizing down, or sizing up more than 1/2 a size is the Thistle & Highland Interlace ring. This is not due to the material, but due to the pattern. If you resize these bands it alters the design, by either removing a segment or adding smooth material. If you need a smaller size, or more than a half size larger than the original please contact me for an exchange provided the ring is not engraved.
How do I determine my ring size?
The easiest way to determine your ring size is to either order one of our ring sizers ( available here) or to go to a local jeweler and ask to be sized. Many customers have incorrectly measured their size at home using string “tricks” or ring template printouts, for the best and most accurate results we recommend purchasing a ring sizer directly from us or getting sized at a local jeweler who uses IKOHE TrueSize ring mandrels and sizers.
We are NOT responsible for ring size differences when measured with sizers made by companies other than IKOHE. If measured with a non-Ikohe sizer, request the internal diameter measurement (in millimeters) of the size that fits you best and send it to us after you checkout. This ensures the correct fit.
