Shop Of Dreams

I opened 140 Years, my antique clothing and textile shop, on Alki Beach in Seattle about 20 years ago. At the time it was the only retail shop on Alki Beach though there had been some before me and quite a few after.
I was inspired by my life-long love of antique clothing and a friendship with a remarkable woman everyone simply called Madame who had operated her own romantic antique clothing shop in Seattle for 35 years. She was just getting ready to retire from shop ownership when I was preparing to open mine, and she was a continuing source of knowledge, respect and understanding of textiles and their beauty, clothing and its history.
In order to stock my shop with the quality I was looking for, I traveled to the Paris and London flea markets twice a year to acquire remarkable pieces of history. I got to know many of the wonderful vendors at the various flea markets in both cities. My clientele would eagerly await my return to get first pick of my finds.
I took my business entirely online about 18 years ago. Ebay in those days was a grand place to sell antique clothing from but I feel it became less so as large retailers took over a lot of the business that happened there. I can't blame ebay for wanting to be as huge as they are; success is good, but often it can be at the sacrifice of original goals.
Voila, etsy came along and I find them to be, as ebay used to be, a great place to be the purveyor of antique goods from...even though I see large businesses masquerading as small ones encroaching here as well. Hopefully etsy will be more vigilant than their predecessor! I still sell newer boutique items on ebay, specializing in linen and art clothing, under the user name of 140years.
I have a 35 year history in studying and learning about vintage and antique clothing, far outliving other jobs I have had (chef, baker, buyer, manager) and I still greatly enjoy the hunt for antique finery, especially for finding rare things I haven't yet run across. I have many contacts in this trade and I am busy making more since my move to the California coast. I also have spaces in two local Santa Cruz area antique stores, Attilia's and Trader's Emporium, so if you're in town come on by!

Thanks so much for coming and perusing the things in my Etsy shop! I have also maintained a site on Ebay for the past 15 years, where I now mostly sell newer women's boutique clothing, specializing in linen clothing which I love. My seller name there is 140years. I try to sell what I love and am attracted to on both sites.

Accepted payment methods

Returns and exchanges
I cannot offer returns on the items I sell; everything is vintage or antique, and I do my very best to accurately describe any flaws or issues they might have. In almost every case garments will be sound and wearable, but in some instances might benefit from dry cleaning or pressing. If I consider them to be too fragile to wear safely I will include that important information in the listing.
I accept paypal as my payment method.
I ship via USPS priority mail with tracking within the US, and via USPS with tracking internationally as well. I am prompt with shipping because I know once you purchase you will be eager to receive your items.
Additional policies and FAQs
I provide bust, waist, hip and length measurements on all my clothing. Two important things to know is that your body measurements should be slightly smaller, by about two inches in most cases, from the garment's so that you can move around freely when wearing it. The second is that a bust measurement is NOT the same as a bra measurement. Bust measurements are the circumference of your chest including your breasts while bra measurements are taken just beneath the breasts. In any case, big difference! I am always happy to take additional measurements or photos for you.
