Description

This is a real eucalyptus leaf and blossom cluster I collected from a woodland in the outskirts of Melbourne, Australia and preserved in a thick, smooth layer of copper. It has been oxidised and finished with Renaissance wax.

The blossoms cluster above the leaf in a beautiful arrangement. Nature creates its own art.

This pendant is perfect for the boho outfit with a drop neckline, or worn against a plain shirt or top to generate maximum impact: guaranteed, people will ask if it is real!

The gunmetal grey chain comes with the option of three chain lengths and comes safely packaged in a gift box.

~~ Electroforming~~
After collecting the leaf I dry it and then prepare it for preservation using various coats of sealant and paint. The leaf is then electroformed, a process by which the piece is suspended in an electrolytic bath containing pure copper and a current is attached to both the copper and the leaf. After 18-24 hours, a thick layer of copper is plated onto the leaf. Afterwards the piece is sanded or filed where necessary and oxidised to enhance the character of the leaf pendant and buffed for depth. I select which patina to use and in some cases create my own in consideration of what would best offset the piece. Finally, to preserve the colour a museum grade wax finish is applied.

Common sense applies as with looking after any other handmade jewellery item.
-Remove before showering or bathing
-Store in a secure, dry place when not wearing
-Do not use jewellery cleaner, simply buff with a soft cloth.
Yes, all uncoated rings may give your finger a green tinge. Many are aware of the health benefits of copper, so do not mind this feature of raw copper.

For coated pieces I choose to use a non-toxic museum grade wax finish. This coat may eventually wear off if this is a well-loved piece, or a ring, as with all known sealants of copper.

If you find yourself getting a green tinge and you would prefer not to you could re-coat the ring yourself using a water-based wood varnish from the hardware store, or a spray on clear matt or gloss varnish from the craft section.

Please check individual listings for details on the finish (if any) used.
Part science, part skill, part finesse... When purchasing from an electroforming artist you are getting all three. When organic items are used there is an added level of difficulty as natural items are textured and difficult to plate evenly. Invested in your lovely, evenly plated piece is hundreds of hours of learning, failures, and pieces that did not come up to scratch.

My plating is as thick as possible for strength, quality and endurance, which takes 24 hours on average per piece. But there is an art to getting this right, without losing the beautiful quality of the piece, so they are all nursed through the process.

Each piece is unique, designed by me and made with Australian plants. They truly are little pieces of Australia.
Unless specified, standard shipping to Australia and international is by "large letter" and is not tracked. This keeps postage costs down. If you would like tracking please convo me prior to making an order.
