Meet Dinah Love - a humble, hard-working pioneer woman and a part of New Zealand history.

Dinah (1880-1975) was the eldest of Elizabeth Jane Love's children. At 12 years old, she left school to help at home.

Her father collected wild clematis for her wedding bouquet. Hence, Dinah has wild clematis on her pocket.

She wanted to marry William Scott for years but her father would not give consent, as she was needed at home to help her mother with Dinah’s seven brothers and one sister.

Dinah’s father finally gave his consent for her marriage when she was 24 years old. He gave her the grandest day. He hired a marquee and they had the wedding under the trees on the farm at Carey’s Bay near Dunedin.

Dinah had 6 daughters.
