Maker Bio
Sono Laura, la creatrice di Communication Crafted. Sono una logopedista scolastica (SLP) che esercita da 15 anni, lavorando principalmente a livello elementare. Connettermi e costruire relazioni con gli studenti è la mia massima priorità: è il fondamento stesso del nostro lavoro condiviso. Un modo per promuovere questa connessione è utilizzare materiali coinvolgenti, divertenti e motivanti per gli studenti: è così che i bambini imparano meglio! Capisco anche quanto siano impegnati i logopedisti e quanto possa essere difficile pianificare attività coinvolgenti per carichi di lavoro diversi ogni singolo giorno. Il mio obiettivo è fornire materiali attentamente selezionati che si collochino all'incrocio tra divertimento e funzionalità, materiali che affrontino un'ampia varietà di obiettivi che non sembrino "lavoro", per i bambini O per te.
Il mazzo di carte SILLY GOOSE! è nato come un mazzo personale che ho creato per la mia sala terapia, stampato con le pagine a colori che avevo a disposizione nella mia scuola e plastificato con la grande plastificatrice per la sala lavoro. È diventato rapidamente uno dei preferiti da studenti di tutte le età, livelli di abilità e obiettivi. Mi sono ritrovato a utilizzare questo mazzo più e più volte, soprattutto per la sua capacità di affrontare un'ampia varietà di obiettivi terapeutici, pur essendo coinvolgente per gli studenti (e per me). Alla fine ho iniziato a chiedermi se esistesse qualcosa di simile in commercio; non riuscendo a trovarlo, ho deciso di realizzarlo io stesso! Sono stati poi creati dei documenti di accompagnamento scaricabili digitalmente per aiutarti ad alleggerire la tua preparazione alla terapia e massimizzare l'utilità del mazzo di carte. Sono davvero orgoglioso di queste risorse e spero che trovino posto anche nella tua sala terapia!
Sono anche un'artigiana di lunga data, in senso letterale. Ultimamente passo la maggior parte del mio tempo a tessere e cucire, e ho sviluppato una serie di tessuti personalizzati a tema SLP da trasformare in divertenti accessori da lavoro fatti a mano per aiutarti a organizzarti e mostrare il tuo orgoglio per il discorso. Ogni articolo cucito è fatto a mano da me nel mio studio a casa, motivo per cui le quantità sono limitate (leggi: se vedi qualcosa che ti piace, è meglio che agisca subito prima che qualcun altro se lo rubi!).
Spero che tu possa trovare qui qualcosa che possa alleggerire il carico della tua pianificazione, aggiungere un po' di allegria alla terapia e rallegrare la tua giornata lavorativa. E ricorda sempre di RENDERLA DIVERTENTE!
I'm Laura, the maker behind Communication Crafted. I'm a school-based Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) who has been practicing for 15 years and counting, working primarily at the elementary level. Connecting and building relationships with students is my top priority - this is the very foundation that our shared work rests on. One way to foster that connection is to use materials that are engaging, fun, and motivating for students - this is how kids learn best! I also understand how busy SLPs are and how challenging it can be to plan engaging activities for diverse caseloads every single day. My goal is to provide thoughtfully curated materials that sit at the intersection of fun and functional, materials that address a wide variety of goals that don't feel like "work" - for the kids OR for you.
The SILLY GOOSE! card deck started as a personal deck that I made for my own therapy room, printed with my limited allotment of color pages at my school site and laminated on the big workroom laminator. It quickly became a favorite with students across ages, ability levels, and goals. I would find myself reaching for this deck time and time again, mainly for its ability to address a wide variety of therapy targets while being engaging for the students (and for me). I eventually started to wonder if anything else like it was available commercially; since I couldn't find anything, I decided to make it myself! Digital download companion documents were then crafted to help lighten your therapy prep and maximize the utility of the card deck. I'm really proud of these resources and hope that they will find their way into your therapy room too!
I'm also a longtime crafter in the literal sense. These days I spend most of my time weaving and sewing, and I've been developing a series of custom SLP-themed fabrics to transform into playful handmade work accessories to help you get organized and show off your speechie pride. Every sewn item is handmade by me in my home-based studio, which is why quantities are limited (read: if you see something you love, you better act right away before someone else snatches it up!).
