I sent this directly as a gift, so I never saw it. The recipient sent me a nice thank you and said he liked it.

About

A family home to clear, memories revived, interest sparked, and now it's time to share it all around.

Welcome to Dunedin Street, which was laid down on paper by Colonial planners of Ashley Bank, about 130 years ago, and never drawn into being... until now, when its ephemeral quality seems just the right address for a virtual store.

History, language, art, literature, music, gardening: all these things inspire me. I've always collected things - from marine fossils to Byzantine tessera to postage stamps and old houses, but in recent years I have been faced with the task of clearing my childhood home of over fifty years of accumulated hoarding. This has sparked an interest for me in the design and social history of the period that I grew up in - the 1960s and 70s. My rural New Zealand experience was of anti-macassars, pressed glass serving ware, and homely china, modified with gold flecked vinyl and formica, ornate white ironwork and ceramic swans. At home my parents favoured sleek modernist Scandanavian wood finishes and parti-coloured tableware. The exotic pop culture of Europe and America seeped into my awareness through magazines and book illustrations as well as a family visit to England in 1967 - oh that fabulous Zodiac mural gracing the reception desk of SS Australis - and the optimistic brutalism of Birmingham's post war architecture!

The death of my husband a few years ago, and the devastating Canterbury earthquakes have meant re-assessing Life's direction. New possibilities abound and my Etsy shop is one of these.

I offer you my obsessions: things that I find attractive or intriguing - vintage and retro items from my own lifetime collection and of course, I still can't resist a bargain. Like a lot of Vintage collectors, I need to keep making space for new favourites. I'm drawn to personal accessories, books, china, pottery, glass, fabric, sewing treats and nostalgic domestica. I hope you are too.

You can find out more about me on my blog - Lady Mondegreen's Secret Garden, which incorporates the real but intangible Dunedin Street.

Straight out of the middle of the twentieth century that's me: old enough to remember crippled First World War veterans - young enough to cringe at eighties padded shoulders. I'm a dreamer, a gardener, a mother and more.

Helping out now and then when my mum needs an extra pair of hands, an artful eye, or a second opinion. I've grown up dressing in my grandmother's dresses from the 1950s, and am surrounded by Mum's vintage china collection.

Welcome to Dunedin Street. I sell vintage and retro items that appeal to me. I select items that are in good condition, though items may show signs of use and age. Occasionally I will list (and describe) damaged items when I consider that their novelty or beauty outweighs the damage.

Ship items back within: 30 days of delivery
I don't accept cancellations
But please contact me if you have any problems with your order.
The following items can't be returned or exchanged
Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
  • Custom or personalised orders
  • Perishable products (like food or flowers)
  • Digital downloads
  • Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)
I aim to describe my stock accurately to avoid disappointment. Please contact me as soon as possible if you are unhappy with your purchase. I prefer to work on a trust basis for the time being rather than laying down strict rules. If something is damaged in the mail, it may be due to poor handling in the post or my wrapping, which I do consider my responsibility.
Payment
Payment is by credit card or Paypal. Note that Credit Card is the default setting for payment choice.
Shipping
I will pack securely keeping cost in mind, but safe delivery is a priority. my packaging is a mixture of new and recycled materials, depending on the item and what I have to hand.

I estimate postage rates for standard Airmail. Actual cost may be less or more than stated so please do contact me before payment. Otherwise I do not refund shipping within NZ$2.00 overpayment. I am happy to combine postage within reason. The second tier of prices which shows alongside Shipping details on my listings - "With Another Item" - is given as a reasonable surcharge for one extra item. Shipping for parcels from NZ is by weight in 100 g increments, so even a small increase in weight increases the price substantially. Australian and New Zealand customers are welcome to contact me (use 'Ask a Question' button) for a reduced price. New Zealanders - do check as postage could be cheaper if you live in the South Island.

For Kiwis and international travellers alike I welcome personal collection - near Rangiora in North Canterbury. Remember to contact me before purchase so that I can set the shipping value to zero and give address details.

Items offered with Free Shipping are priced to cover shipping to European and American destinations.

Please let me know if you want upgrades, economy rates or insurance added.
Buyers are responsible for any Customs requirements imposed by their country.

If you are ordering for a special occasion allow plenty of time. Four days is common delivery time between NZ and the UK but allow two weeks at least.for international mail delivery. I aim to post items within three days of receipt of payment.

A note on photography: I enjoy photographing my garden and am often inspired to use it as a setting for my shop items. Rest assured that I wash table and cookware when necessary after outdoor photo shoots.
