Geoffrey har skapat konst ända sedan han kunde hålla i en penna och målat i olja sedan han var 15 år. Med en omfattande katalog byggd på en konsekvent målarpraktik som sträcker sig över 30 år, och hans nuvarande verk som visar upp hans starkaste och mest självsäkra röst hittills, är han redo att föra sitt budskap om fred, kärlek, gemenskap och enighet till världen i en tid då han tror att det behövs mer än någonsin.
Hans verk har influerats av hans långvariga intresse för måleri, natur, andlighet, den icke-våldsamma japanska kampsporten, aikido, yoga, meditation, skrifter av Deepak Chopra, Thoreau med flera. I ett försök att skapa fred i världen väljer konstnären att skapa mjuka, tysta, rogivande, meditativa rum där både han (under skapandet) och de som betraktar verket ges en möjlighet att gå in i sig själv och få kontakt med en djupare, icke-mental, icke-dömande medvetenhet och verklighet.
Geoffreys konst, även om den är abstrakt till sin natur, påminner om ett landskap i förändring. De andfådda, rytmiska penseldragen antyder ett mjukt rörelseflöde från ett område i målningen, ett rum, ett ögonblick, till nästa. När landskapet i våra liv och dagens omständigheter förändras och skiljer sig från gårdagens, förändras vi, utvecklas vi. Inga två ögonblick är desamma, vart och ett är unikt och ändå, bortom denna verklighet, finns det ett oändligt, tidlöst rum/verklighet som aldrig förändras. Det är konstant och orubbligt. Det är detta rum han strävar efter att träda in i och avbilda under måleriets/skapandets akt.
Konstnären Geoff Harrison föddes i Suffern, New York (Rockland County) år 1975, växte upp i norra New Jersey och tog examen från University of Rhode Island med en kandidatexamen i studiokonst år 1998.
Han utvecklade en karriär inom exklusiv tavelinramning under 27 år, med början i New Jersey och New York City och slutligen i Seattle där hans envishet gav honom ett jobb hos Seattles prestigefyllda Plasteel Frames. Han köpte företaget inom åtta år och förutom att förbättra deras redan goda rykte för kvalitet, utvecklade han en serie slutna hörnramar (träramar med splines, inläggningar och formade ramar) i lövträ, designade med och sålde dem lokalt genom Plasteel samt grossisterade dem till tavelramare nationellt.
Han etablerade också ett konstgalleri som erbjöd både samtida konst och konst från 1800- och tidigt 1900-tal. Under denna period var Geoffrey den främsta tavelinramaren och konsthanteraren av de mest värdefulla samlingarna i nordvästra USA. Hela tiden fortsatte han att utveckla och förfina sin egen röst inom måleriet.
Geoffreys arbete är direkt relaterat till andning och andning, andningens rörelse, kroppens och andens, att vara närvarande och att vara i ett flödestillstånd där allt är möjligt.
Geoffrey has been creating art ever since he could hold a pencil, and painting in oil since age 15. With an extensive catalogue built up from a consistent painting practice spanning over 30 years, and his current work showcasing his strongest, most confident voice yet, he is prepared to bring his message of peace, love, connection, and unity to the world at a time when he believes it is needed more than ever.
His work has been influenced by his longtime interest in painting, nature, spirituality, the non-violent Japanese Martial Art, Aikido, yoga, meditation, the writings of Deepak Chopra, Thoreau, and more. In an effort to bring peace into the world, the artist chooses to create soft, quiet, soothing, meditative spaces where both he (during the act of creating) and those viewing the work are provided an opportunity to go within and connect with a deeper, non-mental, non-judgmental, awareness and reality.
Geoffrey’s art, although abstract in nature, is reminiscent of a landscape in flux. The breathy, rhythmic brushstrokes laid down suggest a smooth flow of movement from one area of the painting, one space, one moment, into the next. As the landscape of our lives and the circumstances of today change and differ from that of yesterday, we change, we evolve. No two moments are the same, each one is unique and yet beyond this reality, there is an infinite, timeless space / reality which never changes. It is constant and unwavering. This is the space he aims to enter and depict during the act of painting / creation.
Born in Suffern, New York (Rockland County) in 1975, Artist Geoff Harrison was raised in Northern New Jersey and graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a B.F.A. in Studio Art in 1998.
He developed a career in high-end picture framing over 27 years starting in New Jersey and New York City and finally in Seattle where his persistence got him a job with Seattle’s prestigious Plasteel Frames. He would purchase the company within eight years and in addition to improving it’s already great reputation for quality, he developed a line of closed corner (Wood Splined, Inlaid, and Shaped) hardwood picture frames, designing with and selling them locally through Plasteel as well as wholesaling them to picture framers, nationally.
He also established an art gallery offering both contemporary art and 19th and early 20th c. art. During this period, Geoffrey was the premier picture framer and art handler of the most valuable collections in the Pacific Northwest. All the while he continued to develop and refine his own voice in painting.
Geoffrey’s work is directly related to breath and breathing, movement of the breath, body, and spirit, being present, and being in the flow state where all things are possible.
