RIPPLEROOT: Art + technology, from a homestead in the woods.
RIPPLEROOT is a husband and wife team, an artist and an engineer, each driven by a curious mind and a desire for deeper connection.
We are Colleen & Scott. We have a variety of projects in the works at our homestead in rural Michigan, including producing art objects, making video games, music, and videos, consulting, writing, soap!
We are making the soap that we want to use.
Using time-tested cold-process techniques, we make small batch traditional tallow-based soap from saponified beef tallow, olive oil, coconut oil, and castor oil. We have an unscented bar which we call The Clearing. The five other bars in our Deep Woods Collection are scented with pure essential oils and tinted with botanicals, clays, salts, or activated charcoal. Each batch is hand-poured, cut, and slow-cured for 4-6 weeks to create durable, deeply moisturizing bars of soap with dense, creamy lather, free from synthetic detergents, sulfates, and artificial hardeners.
We chose tallow on purpose. Bars made from it last longer and rinse cleaner than vegetable-only formulations. It's the oldest soap-making fat in the world, mimics the lipids in human skin, lathers cleanly, and comes from animals already raised for meat, making use of what would otherwise be waste.
