Domain Provider Guide: GoDaddy

Important: You must set both A records and CNAME records in order for your domain to properly connect to your Pattern site.

First, edit your A record information for your root domain.

  1. Go to https://account.godaddy.com/products and log in to your account.
  2. Locate the domain you'd like to connect to Pattern, located under the Domains section. Click Manage.
  3. On the Domain Settings page, click Manage Connection.
  4. If the domain is already connected to another site, click Connect to different site. Otherwise, click the settings gear icon in the upper right of the box showing your domain name and select Manage DNS.
  5. On the Records page, delete any A (Host) records and CNAME (Alias) records you see. Click the pencil icon to the right, and then the trash icon. Then click Delete when prompted.
  6. At the bottom of the Records section, click Add.
  7. In the Type dropdown, select A.
  8. In the Host field, type @
  9. In the Points to field, type 192.147.0.118
  10. Leave the TTL as is or select ½ Hour.
  11. Click Save.
  12. Once back on the Records page, click Add Record in the top left and select A (Host).
  13. In the Host field, type @
  14. In the Points to field, type: 192.147.1.118
  15. In the TTL field, select ½ Hour.
  16. Click Save.

Next, edit your CNAME records for your subdomain.

  1. In the same Records section, click Add.
  2. In the Type dropdown, select CNAME.
  3. In the Host field, type www
  4. In the Points to field, type patternbyetsy.com.
  5. Leave the TTL as is or select ½ Hour.
  6. Click Save.
  7. If you’d like to set up multiple subdomains, repeat the same process above for each, using different subdomains (for example, shop or store).

Once you have set up all of your desired records, you'll need to visit the Domains section of your Pattern Dashboard and type "www.YourDomain.com" into the Connect field.

It can take up to 48 hours for your domain to connect.

If you're still having trouble connecting your domain, check for any preexisting A records or CNAME records and delete them. Conflicting records can cause your domain connection to fail.

If you continue to have trouble, please contact GoDaddy's support team and provide them with the following information:

  • You would like to set up two A records for your root domain which point to 192.147.0.118 and 192.147.1.118

  • You would also like to set up a CNAME record (www.) for your subdomain that points to your Etsy-hosted domain, which is patternbyetsy.com

Note: Never give your Etsy username or password to a third party.

Only you are authorized to instruct your domain provider to connect your domain to your Pattern site. Etsy cannot interact directly with your domain provider under any circumstances.
