Kathryn Bowman's Profile

About

Over the past twelve years I have been designing and making jewelry, teaching other jewelry enthusiast techniques, and creating kits and patterns from my most successful jewelry designs. I would be making jewelry every waking hour, but of course, there is life and people to be taken care of. Almost from the beginning of making jewelry, I loved sharing my knowledge and have found teaching and writing to be a very rewarding part of my artist life. I beadweave, wire wrap and am a metalsmith which may sound schizophrenic, but it all comes together for a harmonious whole. All of those skills are in my tool pack when I start to design and I encourage my students to gain as many skills as they have interest. It all began with beading, but as my work progressed, I found I wasn't happy with the findings in the market place. This lead me to take up metalsmithing.

I teach all of these skills annually at the Bead & Button Show, locally in St. Louis at the Lady Bug Beads shop and at my home studio. To date I've managed to get eleven how-to articles published in Bead & Button Magazine and Bead Unique Magazine.

Prior to this adventure into jewelry making I was a flight attendant. Downsizing, bankruptcies, takeovers, and ending up on the bottom of a seniority list after 33 years of service, told me I needed to make some changes. Taking the leap to be a full time artist meant taking control of my life instead of leaving my future in the hands of a corporation. I've worked very hard, enjoyed the process, learned a lot, and am looking forward to staying right where I am, my own boss. I encourage everyone to buy from the maker.

This shop is all about making jewelry. Kits, patterns, pendant bails, handmade toggles, and handmade necklace cords. You can make all of these designs yourself. Just grab you bead stash, buy one of my sixteen PDF Patterns and you will be on your way. Don't want to shop for beads, then one of my kits will have you beading in no time. Take a look at my YouTube video showing how the Pendant Bail works, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brHP603UnOc. (copy and past the address into your browser address bar) It is an amazing little devise that will solve all of your pendant hanging problems.

Thanks for stopping by the 1 Bead Weaver Shop. Happy Shopping and come back often.
