Welcome to the Ruby Redbird Etsy shop!

As often as I can bring myself to get up early enough to eat breakfast, I enjoy finding myself sipping hot coffee on my porch, surrounded by pairs and pairs of at least a dozen different kinds of birds. Mostly, they are hesitant, even wary of my presence there, so close to their single bowl feeder. My finches will watch me for a while before approaching the bowl, my titmice and chickadees sit in the nearby tree and chitter at me impatiently, and my cowbird pair keep a safe distance until I leave. I do, however, have one fearless pair who don't seem to see me as a threat to their brunch: Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal. This beautiful pair of red birds graciously allow me to sit close to the feeder, listen to my music and eavesdrop their conversations about babies, life, and, I'm sure, me.

They argue like only married couples can, then share a seed or two before returning to their happier conversations. Because of their gallantry, a few of my more timid birds often will venture to the porch, land carefully on the perch, watch me for a moment or two from all angles, take a breath... then jump into the feeder and frantically grab as many seeds as they possibly can while never taking their eyes off of me, making an absolute mess, and flying back to the safety of their tree branches out of my reach. As funny as I find their fear of me being 10 feet away from them, I must extend my appreciation to my cardinal pair. Regardless if I actually manage to pull myself from my bed, they always wake me up in the mornings with their little quarrels, allow me to watch them eat and talk, and never seem to judge my messy morning hair or my tousled, dog-hair-covered pajamas.

Their bravery, acceptance and sense of calm are what made me decide to rebrand this shop in their honor. I realize I must overcome fear in order to move forward in life, I must accept things as they happen and accept people for who they are to establish relationships, and I must always keep a cool head, whether in the quiet of an early morning or in the middle of a squabble with a friend. To my dear sweet Cardinals, I hope we can be friends for a long time.

This shop features handmade crafts and designs that I am inspired by and I hope, in turn, will inspire you, whether it be a morning cup of Happy Coffee, or an afternoon of sketching, or a glass of wine with friends at night. I am happy to receive custom orders for anything within reason, and reserve the judgement of time management for custom orders. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!
