:: THE HUMANS ::

We are a two-person team here at Blisscraft & Brazen.

:: THE BUSINESS ::

In the fall of 2011, we moved to a big, old house in the Canadian countryside, in the province of Quebec. When the back of the house threatened to fall apart, Rachel had to move her jewelry studio into Aaron’s woodshop. Safety first.

Working side by side by necessity inspired us to pull out our dusty “things we’d like to make together one day” notebook and the creative wheels started to turn. Not long after, necessity turned into the combination of two passions and thus, Blisscraft & Brazen (lovingly shortened to B&B) was born.

We almost always use scrap and salvaged materials in our work. Much of the metal comes from recycled copper electrical wiring, old hardware, and old jewelry. The wood is a combination of Blisscraft wood scraps, local wood shop burn bins, old furniture rescued off the side of the road and occasionally condemned pianos taken apart in strangers' living rooms. Each piece has its own unique story.

Our popular bath caddies and couch arm wraps often require lengths of wood unavailable from our scrap pile, but we source our wood from local lumber yards and only use native hardwoods.

Our work has been wonderfully received at a number of design fairs including Montreal's Smart Design Mart, souk @ SAT and Toronto's One of a Kind Show.

:: THE TECHNIQUES ::

We use our combined skill set to make all of our pieces in-house, with the exception of limited edition collaborations that make good use of the incredible range of talent in our group of friends.

We aim to be as sustainable as possible in our business and life.

All of our wood is solid native hard wood. Our wood laminations are done exclusively with formaldehyde-free glue and we finish all of our pieces with a non-toxic, food safe and earth friendly hard wax oil. Hard wax oil is a zero-VOC eco finish made of natural oils, resins and waxes and is completely food-safe. In fact, it's certified for use on children's toys in Europe!

We exclusively use scrap and off-cut leather in our wine racks.

Our shipping materials are 100% post consumer and biodegradeable, made in North America by EcoEnclose. The paper for our thank you notes are made in a small local paper mill.

Wood shavings are used in our garden, compost and the neighbour's chicken coop. Scraps that are too small to be turned into something useful are used to help heat our studios in the winter.

We believe you can make beautiful things and have beautiful homes without adding to landfills and carbon emissions.
