As a child whenever I could find that extra hour somewhere, I would be off in the corner creating something. This was a challenge because we didn't have much money and even less spare time. And having 2 brothers who are artists, I chose to play in materials they wouldn't use - less intimidating. This started out with fabric. I spent most of my time making clothing for my brothers and gifts for family. This morphed into quiltmaking. Later I played around with stained glass and texture items. I realized I truly enjoyed those projects that required structure and form. While raising my family, a lot of my creative juices were channeled into things required for the kids - clothing, costumes, school projects, etc. But the day was coming! As the kids grew up and headed out and I edged closer to retiring, I found the time to go wild! I moved to a place that I could design a dedicated work space (no more kitchen tables!!). While I still enjoy working with fabric and stained glass projects, I have found a real passion in fairies, gnomes, and assorted little folk. Almost as deep a passion as for ANYTHING halloweeny! All year round you will find chain saws, zombies and serial killer stuff in any of my kid's homes or in my house. Sitting outside my front door to greet visitors is a flamingo being devoured my zombie gnomes (this was a mother's day gift from my girls). Even though I am now 'retired' (I think I work harder and longer hours now than when I owned my store), I find myself waking up earlier and earlier eager to get into the workroom and play. I am inspired by everything around me and am constantly looking for twigs, stones, shells and small things that I can deconstruct and re-purpose into a new life for the little folk. There is no better thing in life than to spend your days talking with the wee folk!
