Barb Dyess' Profile

About

During a "writer's block" period in her life, Barb began playing with photos of places she'd visited, such as Taos Pueblo in New Mexico, as another creative outlet. To her surprise, folks wanted to buy them, even if her camera wasn't expensive or fancy. A fellow photographer encouraged her: "Customers don't care how fancy your camera is; they are paying for your EYE."

She is a self-taught photographer (and now with a much better camera) with a love for the play of shadows & light, angles, color, and unusual beauty found in unusual niches. At several airshows, she discovered the sculptural beauty of old aircraft--they are still her best-sellers. Other passions are old buildings, Nature in general from mountains to beaches, the funky, homey decor trend called "modern farmhouse"...and on it goes!

Her love of words as a writer expanded into creating Word Posters with inspirational messages, and an outlet to play with textures, color, and graphic design.

Last but certainly not least, a love for vintage and antique treasures was birthed from time with her grandmother, who taught her the value & curiosity of Old Things. So when Barb finds special jewelry, textiles, lace, glass, pottery and such, she may "upcycle" some and offer other as-is.

When she has time, Barb also crafts decor & useful items from upcycled coffee bags, and stitches up hand-lettered burlap pillows.

Barb believes that Art should be affordable and speak to the buyer - and hopes you find some of her work talking just to you. ~~
