Hi! Welcome to Alex&Ria. Thanks for stopping by.

My name is Kat and I am the owner/designer. And the photographer, marketing director, quality control, buyer, accountant~~well you get the picture. :)

I have been designing/sewing/creating for as long as I can remember. My Grandmother started me out with doll clothes but I was not satisfied with just any doll clothes. I had to design for Barbie. She had the best clothes and gowns in the world, or so I thought. I then graduated to designing for myself. This is where I learned to alter a pattern. You see, I am not very tall so all patterns had to be adjusted. This was a huge learning period. I not only learned how to combine patterns to create what I was seeing in my head but I learned about fabric; what worked and what didn't. Lots of experimentation…

Lots of experimentation.

During college I started designing and sewing professionally. Evening and wedding gowns. I was fascinated, no obsessed with the beading. (still am) Bob Mackie was my Idol. I would study the photography of his gowns and recreate the beading. To me it is very similar to cross stitch or needlepoint except you pick up a bead before you make your stitch. Very relaxing; believe it or not. :)

My next venture was children's clothing. You see by that time I had a five year old daughter and one year old twin boys. It's the logical thing to do when you have absolutely no time to spare - Right? My cottage industry was geared toward the "twin" theme so everything had to be doubled. I truly was insane but some very creative ideas came from the insanity.

Several years later I was on to home decor. I had a new house and was decorating for myself so once again it seemed like the logical thing to do. That lasted a few years until my creative juices were running dry and I decided to go back to a "real job". Yikes!! (My degree is in Psychology and Education) I taught computer skills to K-4th graders. Really, they taught me. But it paid off because I now have to design and create my online Etsy store. Win-Win!!

After ten years teaching and a few in the corporate world, I am back to designing personalized gifts and apparel.

I have a whole new mind-set this time 'round. I have always viewed fabric as art. When I attended the 2010 International Quilt Show in Houston, I was in awe. The fabric art on display was simply amazing. I HAD to start creating again. What an inspiration. My goal is to bring an original and artistic flair to my designs. It is a work in progress! :)

Thank you so much for stopping by and reading my story. Please visit often and if you don't find anything that would work for you, if you would kindly mention my store to friends and family. I just might have what they need. :)

All the best,
KatB
