About

Hi, welcome to my virtual shop!

I´m Alice Artur! I live in a beautiful and cosy city, Caldas da Rainha, in Portugal.
I finish my degree in Fine Arts and I develop this work for three years.

All my works are original, unique and irreproducible. Made using monotype printmaking technique, with plants and natural elements. This technique allowed me to capture the largest amount of details of the plants. I try to respect and highlight the aesthetic and organic qualities that nature gave me.

I inspired myself in nature, in silence, with Japanese and Chinese books, philosophies and rictus. In literature and the most important of all: poetry.

« Poetry is also attention, that is, reading in multiple levels of the reality that surrounds us, which is truth in images. And the poet, that goes undoing e recomposing those images, is also a mediator: between man and god, between man and the other man, between man and the secret rules of nature. (…) All the words offer themselves in their multiple meanings, similar to the flaws of a geological column: each one differently coloured and differently inhabited, each one reserved to the degree of attention of those who shall shelter and decipher it. But for all of them, while it is pure, it has an absolute gift, wich is total and partial, at the same time: beauty and meaning, independent from one another and yet inseparable, like in a communion. Like in that first communion that was the multiplication of bread and fish.”

The work of Alice Arthur are crystallizations of intimate memories. Precise moments are preserved, rearranged, and sometimes inked, going beyond the plant world - personal herbarium, full of shadows and specters.

Like a haiku, each picture is exercise course with a rigorous methodology, which absorbs energy and is subject to the inconstant flora, preserving and crystallizing what ceases to exist.
