Janine Maves' Profile

About

Welcome to Peregrine Silk, fine hand-painted and dyed textiles to wear and hang.

I am Janine Maves, a professional artist who has lived and studied all over the US, earned a B.A. in art, and worked as a graphic artist. Althea Peregrine is my less shy alter ego. You can see a non-sales gallery of my past and present work at altheaperegrine.com. I blog about my processes and progress at http://AltheaP.wordpress.com.

I've been a silk painter for over 20 years. My items are made one at a time - each is unique. (Garments and lined scarves are hand fashioned from my own dyed and painted fabrics. Hats and pre-hemmed scarves are purchased as white blanks and then hand painted and/or hand dyed.) Orders come wrapped in tissue paper. I accept credit cards in addition to Paypal and check.

The process of making silk paintings is both meditative and spontaneous: it's mesmerizing to touch the paintbrush to silk and watch the color flow, but you've got to stay on your toes: there's no stepping back! I love what I do and find that ideas for the next project arise while I'm working. I'd rather be in my studio than any place else.

Contrary to whatever your grandmother taught you, silks are pretty easy-care fabrics: scarves, sashes, tanks and tops can be swished around with a little mild soap, or machine washed on the gentle cycle. Hangings can be dry cleaned. Please see Shop Policies for information on purchasing and returns.

You can convo me through Etsy with any questions.
I'd love to hear how you found my shop.
Thank you for looking . . . enjoy!
