About

Hi, I'm Aly the Red, sewing out of Bliss Monkey Studio, which is located five steps from my back door, overlooking the gardens in lush, green, western Oregon.

I have a degree in Costuming, and have worked in theater for many years, sewing costumes, engaged in textile surface design and millinery.

Two years ago, I made the leap to full time designer and crafter, selling my work on Etsy and at indie craft fairs.

I'm known for saving a fair wack of trees with my reusable, and oh so fun coffee cozies. I adore making bags and wrist warmers. Functional art has always been a fascination of mine. I love the idea of being a "cozy specialist", putting useful items out into the world, making yours a little cozier.

One thing people don't know is that I'm also a passionate art quilter (small art that happens to be made of textile rather than something like paint).

I love to use vintage, upcycled, and re-purposed fabrics when I can, and I always use environmentally friendly inks and art supplies.

My art is inspired by my sense of humor, children's art, hiking and nature wanders, coffee, tea, animals and world travels.

Coffee. I am a avid coffee and tea drinker. I love the ritual of it, sharing with friends, or taking that quiet ten minutes to relax and sip a lovely warm drink. I enjoy coffee and tea cups iconically, and all they represent.

If you like to follow my art adventures, I blog at:

And host a facebook page: Bliss Monkey Studio.

Things I'm good at: being silly late at night, asking "what if"s, being a mama who really wants to hear "what you thinking when you did that", celebrating seasons, petting kitties, filling sketch books, smiling, making a snack plate, organizing other people, joyful dancing, ukulele songs, getting distracted, making tea.

My work has been published in Pretty Little Cozies, The Art of Fabric Jewelry, and Pretty Little Quilts.
