I'm a Canadian born artist now residing in Berkeley, CA. I began my abstract painting while screenprinting some work. I wiped excess ink from my spatulas onto paper, and then added other colors. It was a great relief to do this! I don't use brushes, but implements like spatulas, sponges, and squeegees borrowed from my screen-printing and anything I can scrape with, like old credit cards. My technique ranges from light sweeping movements to more effortful, forceful motions. Sometimes I'll use a spray bottle or just blow on the paints to move them around and blend colors.
I have explored painting in blips and bursts since I was a teenager. In my twenties I became interested in mixing collage and painting, and I was lucky to have a fun bunch of artist friends with whom I made things.
