LATEST NEWS! : My colouring book" An Artist's Garden - Stress Relief Colouring" is available on Amazon.

I love working in all media so being a mixed media artist suits me perfectly.
A bit of a visual magpie, my eye can be caught by anything and everything. If something is visually captivating to me I will explore that in an expressive way.

I'm very fond of patterns which isn't surprising really as I was a surface pattern designer for a ceramics firm in the 90s. The repetition of a motif can create a linking journey for the eye and reinforces the idea of connections, something that fascinates me.

To me everything is connected but sometimes it can feel like the converse is true. These are themes that I enjoy exploring. Sounds can also trigger creative expression for me, whether it's birdsong, wind, rain or music.

As well as finding inspiration in the natural world, science and the metaphysical, the world of whimsy has always had a constant pull for me. I love childrens' book illustrations and Japanese Kawaii.

For me it's not just the finished artwork that is important but the process of making, when a piece is finished it contains the history of my creative journey of exploration, discovery and expression within itself.

Perception is also something I'm fascinated with, everyone is different and everyone perceives things in their own unique way - this is transferred to whatever one is looking at/listening to etc The possibilities of exploration is therefore a bottomless treasure trove for all artists, whether they work with words, music, dance, performance arts, fabric, sculpture, photography, print or paint.

I suppose the best way to describe my work is with an analogy: there are many different types of writers who express themselves through different types of writing - I think that the way I work is a visual equivalent of poetry (something else that I love), it's an expression of myself and how I feel about things, sounds, music, ideas, dreams. I am an explorer.

Update: I had to include this quote that I've found...

"Painting is poetry, and poetry painting that speaks" ~ Plutarch
