About

These unique blankets are handcrafted by Annie Smith. Annie, 86, born and raised in Canada, spent her youth helping with her family's logging business. This blanket style was born out of necessity, using patches of worn clothing to fashion blankets to keep warm as winter approached. One side consisted of the blocked patches and the backer side might have been a potato or grain sack. Inside was filled with more layers of any available fabirc. The layers were tied together, and this blanket gave new life to their old clothing. This craft is handed down through generations of French Canadian women and has crossed the border into New York as Annie continues this tradition in a more fashionable manor.

Now, proudly "made in the USA", her blankets have sold across the country and have even been shipped to soldiers in the Middle East.

Today, each reversible blanket consists of one side with a solid backer piece while the other side is made up of patchwork blocks complimenting the design in the solid side. Inside is filled with more layers of cotton or flannel fabric, giving you a total of 4 - 5 layers to keep you warm and coddled. At 85, years old, she still assembles and ties the layers on her hands and knees on the floor just like when she was a young girl. She then trims it with a striking border to frame the blanket, making it an exciting accent to any room. It's a heavy, space-saving blanket that drapes the body closely. She uses NO BATTING in these blankets. All seams are double-stitched for durability making this one tough blanket. These blankets are machine washer/dryer safe. They are washed, softened, and ironed for you. These are perfect for every special occasion you need a truly distinct gift for. It says you care enough to choose a gift just for them...a handcrafted gift of quality.
