About

Creating custom made, one-of-a-kind, aprons is my passion. It is like composing music for me…searching for the perfect blend of notes, tempo and phrasing (fiber content; weight, weave); creating the desired mood and emotion (color density, texture); combining unusual notes to create a wonderful, pleasing flow of sounds (mixing patterns, color hues, design of fabric). Sometimes the notes don’t blend; I have to find a way to meld them into harmonic tones to create a pleasant melody. Sometimes I create a haunting, sadness or a soulful melody; or a cheerful cacophony of wayward sounds. When it all (fibers, weight, colors, textures, theme/design of fabric) combines and becomes one; it is such a happy emotion (one of a kind, unique, handmade creation).

The density, weight and strength of the fibers have their own personalities. When I blend fabrics (into an apron) from different families (cotton, polyester blends, satins, silks, gingham, linen, gabardine, etc), I am creating a completely new, cohesive design. The colors may clash, the fibers may not move together in the direction I'm envisioning. I keep coaxing them, or sometimes become impatient and choose another group of fabrics. But, in the end; when my creation finally comes together as a perfect song (apron); it is magic. I feel the heart and soul of the combined fabrics/design elements. It flows and turns on its own and becomes an expression of my creativity.
