Welcome to ArtrageousWearables!!

I guess the big news is that I retired from teaching elementary art at the end of this past school year. I am obviously excited about this new phase of my life.....and a little bit nervous.

We started our shop in the summer of 2011 and have really enjoyed the chance to meet people from all over the world....and some of you have become friends along the way....like pen pals we had back in grade school.

I create one of a kind t-shirts and silk scarves using a variety of processes and techniques but mainly I discharge which means taking away color and then I go back and add more color to the shirt/silk scarves. Most of my designs are original and each piece whether it be a t-shirt or a silk scarf, well they are made one at a time, very low tech. For my t-shirts I draw…

For my t-shirts I draw my designs on freezer paper, cut them out with a scissors, and then iron the bits and pieces onto a black t-shirt....after discharging and washing the shirt I go back and add procion dyes. Lots of steps and lots of love goes into each item. More recently I have been using more original thermo/silk screens to create a kind of collage look using both discharging and printing.....

I have found that I do a lot of special orders and enjoy the whole process of working with our customers to create something special for them and their loved ones.

We presently live in Missouri outside of St. Louis, but have also lived in Iowa, Wyoming, Minnesota, and New York. Yes, we get around. Most of my work is inspired by life experiences. I grew up on a farm in Iowa hence cows and pigs. Moose and elk were abundant where we lived in the mountains in Wyoming. A few years ago we had a pet bunny, Chloe, who was totally adorable. Now my yard is over run by bunnies, the wild kind, and they are eating everything in site....yes, they are cute....but just last night a couple of small ferns disappeared....completely.

In my spare time I work outside in my yard, go bike riding on the KATY Trail, play guitar, read, and walk with friends.....I love to experience new things......

Last summer I did a volunteer thing through WWOOF. Spent three weeks near Moab, Utah helping out at a small goat ranch. I have participated in volunteer work with both sea turtles and the minke whales during my past summers. Finally I spent two summers at the YMCA of the Rockies at Estes Park as an Art Instructor actually teaching visitors how to create their own discharge t-shirt.

My daughter graduated from college with a degree in Art History and Archaeology. She is presently working at Starbucks, paying off her college loans, and trying to decide what the future holds for her.

Thanks so much for dropping by and taking the time to check out our one of a kind pieces. Let us create something special for you.
