I created Bird-E Towels for my family after trying all the recommended fabrics for unpaper towels....flannel, microfiber (ick!), and I even tried woven cottons which just pushed the water around. I loved my floursack towels but they were really too big to replace paper towels. My hubby continued to buy cases of paper towels from our local warehouse club.

In my sewing studio one day, I had an 'aha' moment when I touched the 100% cotton fabric that I had purchased to make cloth diaper inserts for my baby girl (who is no longer a baby...how quickly time passes!) This type of fabric has been well-loved over the years because of the high absorbency. I'm sure women have been using this cloth as a cleaning towel for years. But...no one had cut them to paper towel size and used them as a paper towel replacement until I started offering them here on etsy…

What a wild ride it has been since then. I was a SAHM with 5 kids, trying to make a little extra money for our family. Now I'm president/ceo of my own little company. I now have 1 part-time employee and I know our future will be bright.

*******************

I have been sewing since I was 11 years old...when I taught myself on my aunt's treadle sewing machine. I've been hopelessly hooked since then. I'm mostly self-taught although I've taken a few classes over the years. I am obsessed with creating useful yet beautiful unique items, especially for children.

I married a wonderful man who has never questioned a single fabric purchase nor has he had any issue with my collection of sewing machines...each with their own purpose. We have 6 children (5 who walk and 1 who soars) and a very busy household!

I have my own studio on our property...and that's where the magic happens. I tear through like a tornado, pulling fabrics and trims out and letting it tell me what it wants to be...tempered only by my desire to create something that will be used again and again. Because of that desire, I sew my items with longevity in mind. I pre-wash fabrics to ensure there won't be future shrinkage. I also serge all appropriate seams for a professional look.

Our family has gradually made the switch from our high dependency in disposable products to more earth-friendly habits like using unpaper towels and even having a compost bin. And thus, some of my product offerings will be eco-friendly.

Thank you for looking!
