There is something more about the Baan Unrak product. Sure, it is beautiful. Sure, every bit of it is handmade and created traditionally. But there is more to each product than the joy it brings to each customer.
What makes the Baan Unrak product unique is the story that each item carries. Like any interesting tale, it is not one without strife. However, each item represents a happy ending for one of the many displaced, single women who live on the border between Thailand and Burma.
In 1993, Baan Unrak Children’s Village (translated as "House of Joy"); a Thai NGO committed to housing and educating abandoned children on the Myanmar border; officially opened a weaving and sewing center in order to provide training and jobs for single mothers and women in our community.
