And now, a little about why Baby Bird Built; how it came to be, and where it's going.

I have an art degree in interior design, however, this is not where my artistic career began. Like many children, I started making crafts years ago in school, etc. I have always loved using my hands to work with intricate objects, whether creating or fixing.

One of my biggest inspirations and best childhood memories, is from my grandmother who also made jewelry.

She worked with many different materials including metal, glass, stone, etc. She would often buy things at yard sales or flee markets rework them, and give them as gifts to my cousins and me. I loved searching through the workshop she had in her home, piled from ceiling to floor with jewelry, antiques, beads, string, wire, ribbons, fabric, etc. I always found something new and exciting.
When my grandmother passed I was left with some of her jewelry and some beads and string. I have made many gifts from these pieces that I have given to friends and family, especially my two youngest sisters who unfortunately were never able to know my grandmother as well as I did. Giving these gifts is my way of keeping the memory of her talent, generosity, and love of art, alive in my family.

Now I am branching out to the rest of the world. I am learning from other artists and growing in my own creativity and skill. Every piece that I make is a part of my memory and my family's history, and I feel very blessed to be able to share them with you.

Presently I am saving up money to go back to school to be an art teacher, a calling I should have heard years ago but only recently has this light bulb gone off. The proceeds from this Etsy shop will help me achieve that goal so that I can spread the appreciation of art and nature onto future generations to ensure a beautiful future.

My Waldorf Items
You will notice that many of my items are labeled Waldorf. Some of you may have an idea of what this is, some of you may not. In either case, here is a link to a great explanation of what Waldorf toys are.
