About

Hi there! I figure if you've dug around my shop enough to find my profile, you really want to know more about me...so here you go! :D

I am a Mama of 5 and Wife who loves to stay up late in my studio playing with fabric while the family sleeps. I am typing this late at night while the family sleeps. It's how I do what I do :)

This is also a Family-run business and we take our products, especially safety, seriously. I am a business member of the BCIA (Baby Carrier Industry Alliance) and the ASTM (Standards & Materials) and in compliance with the CPSIA. I know that's a lot of letters, but it means that you can buy with confidence from BabyEtte.

As a mama who has worn her babies for over 13 years, and sewn my own Ring Slings for almost that long, I can’t say enough good things about Babywearing. There are many good carrier companies out there, and most of them are wonderful! Many of the differences that do exist are in style. So I say look around, and find your style...Embrace your style!

Below you will find brief product descriptions and a few Frequently Asked Questions (There are more FAQ on my website here: http://babyette.net/information/faq ). I am convo friendly, so if you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask :)

These are all things I'm passionate about.

Ring Slings

I feel strongly that a sling should be beautiful. You will not find licensed characters or juvenile prints here. Since your sling is going to cover up most of your outfit it should be a style that compliments what you would wear anyway. This is also good when your shirt has been used as a hanky (I know, it happens).

Your Sling will have the BabyEtte Tag stitched at the bottom of the tail. That way people will admire you, your baby, and your lovely sling…not the tag. It’s all about you, my friend!

Q: Why Super Wide ring slings?

I make BabyEtte slings the way I like them, and I like my slings wide, safe, and pretty. I have found that a wide sling is best for versatility. A wide sling also helps if your baby likes to lean from side-to-side.

My husband insists on wearing wide slings. Once, while wearing my 2nd daughter in a narrow sling, he pulled the fabric up over her shoulders and her bottom popped out. He is now careful to avoid narrow slings.

This is why my 'BabyBasics' and Batik cotton ring slings are Super Wide.

Q: Isn’t that too much fabric for a tiny baby?

Actually, it’s not. I have worn my newborns in Super Wide slings for as long as I've been making them. I place the top rail of the fabric at the top of baby's shoulders, smooth it down their back, and the extra width bunches under baby's bottom. The fabric will run from the back of one knee to the back of the other knee, creating a deep seat for baby.

You can see a video slideshow of me wearing my 8 week old here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sd7r6IpTEHY&feature=channel&list=UL

Q: How do I tighten the rails?

The rails (edges) of the sling are tightened by pulling on the sides of the tail. It is important to lift the baby's weight with one hand, to unlock the fabric in the rings before you pull on the tail. This makes it much easier to adjust.

Pulling on the tail edge on the inside of your body will tighten the top rail of the pouch, while pulling on the outside tail edge will tighten the bottom rail of the pouch. Pulling on the whole tail evenly will tighten the whole sling evenly. Practice this and you will become a pro in no time! :D

BabyWearing Ponchos

If you've ever wondered, “How do I keep my baby and myself warm when my baby is in the sling?” a BabyWearing Poncho is the answer.

The wraparound babywearing poncho keeps you both warm, while being able to be worn with or without baby in a carrier. This is a great babywearing accessory for cool weather.

NeckScapes

NeckScape scarves are made from incredibly soft jersey knit, and can be worn in several ways. Babies also love to pull on these and play with them while in the sling :)
