I rescue these cast-off delicacies for your sartorial pleasure in between raising my son and daughter (who never tire of hearing stories about their great-great grandmother, Basya Berkman, my shop's namesake).

Basya was a tireless, Old Country matriarch who inspired me to always look back toward the past with an eye to reinvention. A Holocaust survivor, legendary dollar-stretcher and lifelong seamstress, she nurtured all my childhood dreams. Every time I list an item in her name, I feel like I'm honoring her warmth, wisdom and originality.

My home studio is just north of Chicago, in Evanston, Illinois, where I take clients by appointment. I also do styling, personal shopping, and am known for pouring tea (and offering books) for those who stop in and hang out just long enough. Please stop by if you are in town!…
