About

I rescue these cast-off delicacies for your consuming pleasure in between raising my son and daughter who never tire of hearing stories about their great-great grandmother, Basya Berkman, the namesake of this store.

Basya was a tireless matriarch from the Old Country who inspired me to always look to the past with an eye for reinvention. A holocaust survivor, legendary dollar stretcher, and life-long seamstress, she nurtured all my childhood dreams. Every time I list an item in her name, I feel like I'm honoring her warmth, wisdom, and originality.

My home studio is located just north of Chicago, in Evanston, where I take clients by appointment. I also do styling, personal shopping, and am known for pouring tea and books into the throats of those who hang out long enough. Stop by if you are in town!
