About

Welcome!

The Thing in the Walls is my genie... It is the little voice in my ear that nudges me into picking up my pencils and brushes and sitting down to create even when I feel like I couldn't get a stick-man to come out!

Recently we've been getting to know each other much better and I've been getting used to his funny ways. Sometimes he goes off exploring elsewhere and I'm left to my own devices. When this happens I tend get all downhearted but always, unexpectedly, he drops by out of the blue for tea and cake and tells me all about what he saw on his travels and like magic, everything flows again and creating becomes an exhilarating journey.

My interests are in nature, animals, people, circus traditions, superstition, shamanism, mythology, folklore, legends…

My interests are in nature, animals, people, circus traditions, superstition, shamanism, mythology, folklore, legends and every realm of my imagination that I can reach while still awake! Or half awake; some of my best paintings begin to form right when I am nodding off and I have to climb out of bed in the middle of the night, falling over shoes and laundry to find a scrap of paper to scribble is down on. In my experience genies don't tend to have a civilized idea of what constitutes a good working day!

I love the dark and the beautiful, the sad, the uplifting and the bizarre; all that is emotive, elegant and expressive.

I have been working as an artist since 2008. I am primarily a painter and draftsman but I also enjoy sculpting weird and wonderful beasties and I take portrait commissions too. I am good at capturing an individual soul (more than once I have made people cry and it is about the only situation when I am really pleased about this!) and the better I can get to know somebody during the portrait painting process the more true this becomes.

I live in a van in rural Somerset (soon to be Dartmoor, I hope!) and I have two amazing horses for endless discovery and quiet companionship.
