Susan Campanini's Profile

About

For the past 25+ years, I have been designing with beads made of a wide range of materials: stone, glass, crystal, metal, cloisonné, bone, horn, bamboo, porcelain, ceramic, wood. Many pieces include vintage or handmade beads.

My interest in design patterns, color, and shape derives from prior work with oil, acrylic, pastels, and colored pencil. I am especially interested in using different materials in varying sizes and shapes that contrast, combine, and ultimately merge as a unified and harmonious pattern.

Each design is completely unique: one-of-a-kind pieces that you will not see anyone else wearing.

Some pieces have a Far Eastern flavor, including symbols from Asian cultures such as I Ching coins or Yin Yang, and are made of cloisonné, silver enamel, porcelain, cinnabar, or jade.

There are elegant styles for special occasions, eye-catching treasures of handmade lampwork glass, lead crystal, precious metals, or special Vintage beads, usually in formal, dressy designs.

The more casual jewelry is for everyday wear: at work, at home, with dresses, pants, or jeans. These designs may be made of stone, glass, metal, or other materials, using beads of all shapes and sizes.

Ethnic pieces have a touch of exotic far-away places and colorful patterns. Some may use natural materials such as horn and bone.

My work is available on Etsy and from my home here in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, where I live with my husband David Manton and our five cats. When I’m not designing jewelry, I’m in our flower garden or reading literature, enjoying music and movies, and playing with our cats.
