I have an incurable case of wanderlust and I love nothing more than exploring and finding inspiration in the textures, forms, and colors of new places. I was born and raised in the beautiful state of Michigan, but my job as a teacher has allowed me to spend most of the past eight years living in Thailand, Syria, Vietnam, and now Austria. My shop is named after two female explorers, Gertrude Bell and Isabella Bird.
I try to reflect the textures, forms, and colors of a place in my jewelry through the use of mixed materials. I roll beads from various types of paper that I've picked up in my travels, and then I mix these paper beads with beads made of glass, wood, metal, porcelain, lava, pearl, cinnabar, and stone. I love to search the markets in new places to find interesting papers and beads.
