Boundaries? What Boundaries?

My name is Lianne and I am a Crochetaholic

This began around 2004 when I bought myself a pair of gorgeous turquoise suede boots and wanted a poncho to wear with them but couldn't find one the right colour in the shops anywhere.
Being the kind of person who loves a challenge and believes anything is possible with the right attitude I asked my Mum to teach me how to crochet so I could make one myself and an obsession was born!

From the moment I decided I wanted to crochet I carried around a picture of a beautiful designer poncho from a magazine, certain that I would one day be capable of making it myself.
Now that I know how to make something take the shape I want it to I am unstoppable!

Usually I just have an idea, or someone requests a particular item and hey presto:
it comes to life right in my hands.

Although I have always LOVED making things in all different ways (especially if it means a new lease of life for something that would otherwise be landfill) crocheting really struck a chord in me and has taken over as my primary means of creative expression. I particularly enjoy crafting sculptural items like Dragons, Breakfasts, Fairies...there really is no limit!

I don't just sell my pieces here, I also love Yarnbombing
which is not only great fun, it's an excellent way to repurpose neglected yarn stashes!!!
When you crochet or knit people tend to donate old yarn to you, a lot of which is not the kind of thing you'd want to wear, so it's perfect for artistic projects.
Check out my inspirational installations here:

I have also been a Stonemason, a Florist, and a Goat Herd to name a few.
Not to mention my Chicken-Whispering escapades, all of which have proved highly inspirational at different points along my artistic journey to the other side of the world and back.

So enter the world of Bertha's Bizarre Bazaar and check out the yarny stuff that grows out of my brain, and feel free to request something personal that you would like me to make for you.
I also now have a second Etsy shop, selling my favourite 'Recycled' Sari Silk Yarns and Ribbons, Bamboo Hooks & Knitting Needles, Crochet Patterns and Crocheted Silk / Vegan Silk Wearables and Accessories.
Come and have a look around, it's really colourful, sustainable and empowers women in India;
