Sherry Collins Hogan's Profile

About

Born in Charleston, SC ,lived and worked for many years in the city of Chattanooga, Tn and currently living in Northwest Georgia at the foot of Lookout Mountain on a small farm, my name is Sherry Collins Hogan. I am a full time professional artist, a small business owner, wife, mother and grandmother.
Essentially I am self taught by studying the works of many artists and reading extensively about techniques and materials. I have taken the occasional workshop and a year of private lessons with a retired artist and teacher friend. I have tried out many mediums of art over the years and still work in many but currently the majority of my paintings I use high quality color pencils and oil paints for a mixed media painting that is surprising to everyone who sees the outcome of those two mediums worked together. I also use acrylics, pastels, watercolor, to be honest the subject matter always tells me what medium to use. The other thing that will show up from time to time in my art is the recycling of found and old objects.
My Art and Paintings are driven by my passion for the spirit of the horse, the innocents of a child's face, the curve and motion of a woman's body, and the sights and sounds of the ocean, mountains, trees. Most things that portray a life and appreciation of natural living and getting back in touch with mother earth is what you will see in my artistic endeavors. A way of life that I have found to be most enjoyable.
My family and shop was in the city for several years until we decided we needed something different. We up and moved family and business out to the country, seven acres, a 100 year old farmhouse and a very old sad barn. My husband and I are restoring the old farmhouse and barn by ourselves, but, even with this I still have time to paint.

The studio gets it's name somewhat from the big old barn where my studio is now. I know this is a bit unconventional working in the loft of an old barn. But, it makes me happy. I can look out the windows all through the day and see my horses and chickens anytime I need a stretch. Or walk out to the garden to gather a flower to add to a painting. This my friend is the way to work and live for me!

In closing my bio I will just say it will be a privilege to share my work with you!
