I started my jewelry making with a 6 week wire-wrapping class at our local art center. Before the class was finished, the center requested some of my pieces to offer for sale in their gift shop. I was also chosen to be the featured artist of the month at the center-- the first time a 3-D artist had been selected! It's been non-stop since.

I do have a day job; I'm a drug and violence prevention worker in my county.

I also recently retired from the Illinois Army National Guard after 20 years, 3 months and 13 days of service in the Guard and Army Reserves. I loved it, but it took time away from my family, friends, and JEWELRY!

I struggled for a long time about a store name. Finally my husband suggested "Big Smile" because that's the first thing he noticed about me, and that's what I hope people have when they receive my work! Also, even strangers sometimes comment on my big smile, so hopefully it will be easy for people to remember :)

I work hard to make affordable items, while still using quality materials-- that's why I no longer sell consignment; I always felt guilty about the mark-up. I love to make custom pieces, and tearing pieces apart and use the materials in different ways. When shipping, I try to re-use packing materials as much as possible to reduce waste.

Please feel free to contact me with special requests; I can often make adjustments to a piece to make it work just right for you!
