Q: Why the shop name Black Cat Design?
A: I LOVE CATS! I have 2 fluffy cats, Licorice and Coconut. Coconut is a neighborhood favorite because we go for walks everyday (she wears a special cat harness and bungee cord leash). Both are Maine Coon mixes that I adopted from a great cat rescue in Black Forest, Colorado, called Wild Blue. Licorice is more black, but she is not all black.

FYI: What is the symbolism of the Black Cat?
Since I started my shop, I learned a Black Cat is an ancient symbol of healing! I found this really interesting. A lot of folklore considers Black Cats to be dangerous or evil or bad luck. But in ancient Egypt (a very advanced society), doctors painted a Black Cat on a sign above their door. This told the townspeople (many couldn't read) that a doctor practiced there.

Q: What about the symbol of a Black Cat being a witches' familiar?
Yes, I like that, too! Witches were healers who often worked with herbs. Thus, they are often drawn stirring a mysterious black kettle full of liquid. I believe their magic potions were often herbal teas or elixirs made from bark and berries, etc.

Q: Where do you live?
A: I live in Colorado Springs, Colorado, 45 minutes south of Denver. It's quite scenic here (Garden of the Gods is a very famous park with amazing red rock formations) and the weather is perfect - over 300 SUNNY days per year! I am hoping to move to a bigger city, though, in 2017.

Q: What other kinds of art do you do?

Q: What are your other interests besides art?
Helping animals, saving the environment, traveling (went to London for the first time in 2016), going out for lunch, Starbucks, meditating, going for nature walks, riding horses.

Q: What is your favorite color?
Forest green.

Q: What sort of realm or hybrid are you?
I'm a mixture of Forest Fairy (love nature and want to help the environment), Alien (love computers and my iPhone) and Angel (like helping others and putting others first).
