BleuOiseau Photography grew out of the need to capture the everyday beauty in my life. The words bleu and oiseau represent three of my favorites things. The words are in French which represents my heritage as I am from south Louisiana and grew up hearing snippets of the French language. The bleu represents my favorite color and oiseau means bird in French. I am an avid birder therefore oiseau just seemed to roll off the tongue and make sense to me...

I am a natural light photographer. I like to use what light is available when photographing a scene or object. My goal is to capture the beauty that is already present in my subject whether that is a landscape, portraiture, or ordinary object. I aspire to have my photographs feel like paintings, to have them evoke emotions from the observer. I shoot a wide variety of subjects but some of my favorite to shoot are birds, trees, and rivers.

I only shoot in RAW format which allows me greater control with my images. Depending on the image, I may try out different effects in Photoshop. I like to seek out what the image represents or what story I want it to tell. The effects I use range from subtle color changes to dramatic renderings of the image. These changes are meant to bring out the best in the image and are a part of my creative process.

While editing in Photoshop, I discovered a cool tool where I can twist or twirl an image. I decided to make a whole series of Twisted images which are mostly of flowers and insects. I am currently working on a series of what I like to call “inkblot” trees where I render trees to look like inkblot images. I will focus on a section of trees found along the Klickitat River. I will continue to photograph various subjects and also have a project in the works that focuses on the local rivers that flow into the Columbia.

Take a peak around and send me a convo if you would like to chat. Enjoy and thanks for stopping by!
