Since high school, the camera has always been a fine tool to kindle John’s creative spirit as much as to capture a moment in time. Since high school, the camera has always been a fine tool to kindle John’s creative spirit as much as to capture a moment in time. When you take the camera out in the world with you, armed with an open and artistic mind, you will start looking at shapes, shadows, objects, colors, and of course light from a whole different perspective. Now with the enormous advancements in photo technology, artists have literary an unlimited palette of imagination to shape all pictures taken and developed. John is very much about that creative power to explore and push the boundaries to present a well crafted work. Of course, there are many directions one can take in photography and Blow Ups is lucky to incorporate a husband and wife team that views things from two different perspectives. Dominika is a straight shooter and a photo purist who insists that our goal is to develop the photo showing only the subject’s natural beauty. It has proven to be a good combination from which Blow Ups can draw, but I have to admit, the process doesn’t always go smoothly.
Island hopping from Nantucket to Mount Desert Island put their new home right next door to Acadia National Park. A magical place that combines beautiful, rocky seacoast with majestic mountains. Cradled in these mountain valleys are many great lakes and large forests with vast variety of trees sprawled all through this island wonderment. You should always have a camera close by because you never know what you’ll see turning the next corner. The moment could simply happen when you’re watching the Bruins game on TV and that barred owl, which you fondly named Boris, lands on a tree right outside your window. He is suddenly ready for his photo shoot. Mustn’t disappoint him, though you do wish Boris would show up in better lighting.
