Angela and Nancy's Profile

About

My name is Angela Kipling, and I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (way up north, right on the border with Canada) with my daughter Miss Molly (the first official Boondocks Baby and model.)

Opening a shop on Esty was a long time goal of mine, but finding a niche was the hardest part. I have always considered myself an artistic dabbler. I love photography, painting, ect. but knitting is something I could do all day long. For me it is such a stress reliever. Creating baby hats, especially the ones for the newborn photo props is a very special and fun job. The hats you pick for your newborns first photos become apart of your families memories forever. It's something we don't take lightly and it's why most of the hats are very limited or are one of a kind. This is also why we use extra soft yarns that are not only stylish but warm…

Where Boondocks Babies comes from:
Most of the towns, villages and cities where we live in the U.P. are considered small to most outsiders. We give directions in hours, you help out your neighbors and strangers, we measure snow in feet and embrace a slower pace then most places in the United States. Most would consider this land the "Boondocks", a remote and sometimes isolated place. With this in mind, I knew there must be other "Boondocks Babies" out there that need warm, comfortable, fun hats that can be worn all winter long (there is snow on the ground 7 or more months out of the year here, how about where you live?) This place is called the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where the winters are cold, the snow piles high and hats are a must. .

This shop is a team effort with my mom Nancy who helps keep the virtual shelves in our Esty Shop filled. She is the women who taught me how to knit (who I would bug at a very young age to cast on some stitches just so I could knit) and continues to inspire me to be creative.
