Color is life.

Hello Wonderful Etsians! I am a crafter and teacher from Northern California. I am over-educated to the point of the ridiculous. I am in my early forties and, having just gone through an ordeal with cancer, I have a fresh, new perspective on life. I want to make stuff! That’s what I like to do, that’s what I love to do! So that's what I do. Yay!

I was raised by two artists and have always been encouraged to create. I remember going to art openings and craft fairs with my mother as a child and knowing for sure that that’s what I wanted to do when I “grew up”. I just forgot somewhere along the way. My mother made the most beautiful batik scarves and wall hangings in the 1970s and the smell of the wax and the warmth of her craft was so magical to…

I was raised by two artists and have always been encouraged to create. I remember going to art openings and craft fairs with my mother as a child and knowing for sure that that’s what I wanted to do when I “grew up”. I just forgot somewhere along the way. My mother made the most beautiful batik scarves and wall hangings in the 1970s and the smell of the wax and the warmth of her craft was so magical to me. This was a wonderful gift bestowed upon me. Years later, I am ready to use it.

Color is exciting to me. It’s my thing really. I even organize all the books on my bookshelf by color. My days go like this: I teach, I create, and I feel joy. I have two beautiful souls that share in my creative endeavors with me.

Carla Marie is one of my best friends ever. She is a very skilled crafter and adept at so many things. She also takes the most amazing photographs—she finds the beauty in all things. She is very grounded and is a little piece of Mother Earth herself. I really love her for this. The name Calamari comes from the mighty duo we were: Carla + Amari. Carla and I made our earrings together, side-by-side. I designed them and she “made it so.”

Banshee Rain is a true artist, the real deal. She is amazing and I get to watch as she wiggles out of her shell and blesses us all with her magical insight. She is half my age but teaches me every day.

I grew up all around the United States as my father was an art professor at many universities. I’ve had the blessing to live in many exotic places in North America such as the cultured and mysterious little town of Thibodaux, Louisiana in the Deep South, a breath-taking Dutch Harbor, Alaska, and in the bamboo forest in Paia, Maui, Hawaii and many places in between.

For the last 20 years or so I’ve lived in a small art community in Northern California beholden of the beautiful Bidwell Park. I am very inspired by goddess symbols and mermaids—I just really love them. I went through a twenty year faerie phase but now I seem to be on to mermaids and the Sea. I celebrate all the colors of the rainbow—both of light and pigment.

Although all of our jewelry findings are new, we upcycle as much as possible, incorporating vintage beads as well. Art/Up-cycling is our thing; it’s what all three of us have a deep passion for. My entire front room has become a living, breathing “drop-in” art studio and I love it! It’s like Kindergarten all over again where crayons and glue sticks were always available. Everything we have is unique, inspired, and made with love.
