My life seems to be defined by seemingly insignificant events that turn out to be anything but insignificant. I started doing jewelry on a whim nine years ago, I had no idea that it would end up being such a satisfying creative experience. My eye is drawn to color and pattern. Jewelry is a medium that incorporates color, pattern, and texture in the most wonderful way.

On my own crazy journey through this world I collect beads and buttons from all the places I visit: shells from Holly Beach in Louisiana, beads from the little voodoo shop in New Orleans, buttons from the old Baking soda can my Mother gave me…

On my own crazy journey through this world I collect beads and buttons from all the places I visit: shells from Holly Beach in Louisiana, beads from the little voodoo shop in New Orleans, buttons from the old Baking soda can my Mother gave me. My husband often teases me that I use making jewelry as a cover for my true obsession of collecting beads and buttons. To my eye, each bead or button is a complicated combination of color, pattern, and texture. Each bead looks one way when I hold it in my hand, and then changes as I add other beads on a strand. Just like in my life, no one part stands alone, each part in a piece of jewelry is as important as any other. Great consideration goes into the selection of each component. For me it is important that there is a pattern, and that the texture and color all work together to achieve an overall effect in each piece of jewelry. To me, each piece of jewelry represents a piece of me, and my view of the world.

Every new adventure is an opportunity for inspiration and of course an opportunity to get more buttons!

My husband often helps me solder pieces, mostly because he is so much faster than I am! He also does all the shipping labels and post office runs.

A little bit about the buttons I use. All the Military buttons come off US Military uniforms. I use Army (BDU, ACU, and DCU), Air Force, Marine, and Navy buttons. The majority of the buttons are from Army uniforms. I get this question a lot: Yes, ACUs have buttons….check your fly! The ACU pants have buttons on the fly and back pockets. The ACU and BDU buttons are almost identical. The ACU buttons tend to have a little more of a shine to them and are slightly darker while the BDU buttons are more matte and slightly lighter, more olive green. The Air Force, Marine, and Navy buttons I have are identical to the Army buttons. In the descriptions for each piece, I try to specify the branch or version of a uniform that the buttons belong to. However, some of the buttons came in groups sent to me from other military wives and I can’t be 100% sure where each button has come from. As always, I am more than happy to use button you provide in your necklace, bracelet, or key chain. Just contact me to make arrangements!
