Carol Fletcher's Profile
My photographs are of the near and far, time caught, daydream and reality. I’m haunted by the forgotten, the old—the fading ambiance, the mystery of a once bigger world, the simplicity, the wisps of disappearing places and ways. I want to capture the light, colors and moods of a place, of a person…the solitude, the peace, the great deep, the quiet of the early mornings, the glow of twilight, and the stillness in the nooks and crannies, the mists of the soon-to-be past.
Inspired by old linen postcards, hand-tinted glass slides, dusty old antique shops and ephemera from the era of the Grand Tour, I look for ways to give my photographs a touch of the old times with alternative processing—layering textures, colors and collage in my digital darkroom. Images sometimes make roundtrip journeys between digital and film as I play with film, polaroid transfers and hand-tinting to get just the right effect…
