Carol Fletcher's Profile

About

My photographs are of the near and far, time caught, daydream and reality. I’m haunted by the forgotten, the old—the fading ambiance, the mystery of a once bigger world, the simplicity, the wisps of disappearing places and ways. I want to capture the light, colors and moods of a place, of a person…the solitude, the peace, the great deep, the quiet of the early mornings, the glow of twilight, and the stillness in the nooks and crannies, the mists of the soon-to-be past.

Inspired by old linen postcards, hand-tinted glass slides, dusty old antique shops and ephemera from the era of the Grand Tour, I look for ways to give my photographs a touch of the old times with alternative processing—layering textures, colors and collage in my digital darkroom. Images sometimes make roundtrip journeys between digital and film as I play with film, polaroid transfers and hand-tinting to get just the right effect…

I was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. By the age of four, I had adopted my grandparents’ habit of getting up before dawn to appreciate the stillness and hope of mornings, with a good cup of coffee in hand. For twenty years now, I'm a Chicagoan. I like the pace here, I like the lake that looks and acts like an ocean. I like the sound of shovels on snowy walks in winter.

I live to travel. “To travel is to possess the world,” I once read. These pictures are my life’s souvenirs. I hope they bring you peace and smiles.

CUSTOM SIZES, PRINTING & PAPERS ARE AVAILABLE!

My prints are listed as 8x12", 8x10", 8x8", 5x7" or 5x5" but I can print them at just about any size at your request.

I also can give you a printing choice. I like to print my own work. I have a professional printer that uses rich archival inks. I am in love with a smooth watercolor paper that is super thick and has an incredible color saturation and range. I will print when you place your order and will allow the print to dry for 20-24 hours before packaging to ship. While I love the look and feel of the matte watercolor paper, there are some photographs that just call out for glossy lab prints--and sometimes scream for metallic glossy paper/printing. If a photo speaks to you in that way, please don't hesitate to ask and I can special-order it for you upon request.

PLEASE NOTE ALL PHOTOGRAPHS/PRINTS ARE COPYRIGHTED. You must have permission IN WRITING to use any image in any way. PURCHASE OF ANY PHOTOGRAPHY PRINT DOES NOT TRANSFER COPYRIGHT.
